Position: Folder Gluer Operator

Department:  Gluing Department

Reporting to:  Finishing Department Manager

Summary: Effectively set up and operate folder glue machines at or above the standard levels. Minimize waste, Maximize machine efficiency, and utilization. Trouble shoot, identify, and corrects machine related problems through proper adjustments to various parts of the machine. Oversee and lead machine crew.

Essential duties/Responsibilities:

Duties performed by employees in this position will include, but not be limited to the following:

• Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures, including Lock Out Tag Out.

• Conducts quality checks and corrects defects identified.

• Responsible for changeover/make readies for the following cartons structures.

  •  6 corners box, 4 corners box, Auto bottom and Straight line.

• Monitor equipment during the running process to meet customer specifications.

• Adjust account for different fold and glue patterns base on job specifications.

• Perform preventative and mechanical maintenance, adjustments, repairs and cleaning as needed. Assist in daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.

• Observe and monitor machine operation while running to identify issues and determine if adjustments are necessary.

• Must have general Knowledge of the Leary Glue System.

• Oversee and confirm carton counts are correct.

• Communicate with operators from previous and following shifts to review any problems experienced on the machine during one’s shift.

• Communicate with supervisor to determine priorities for the day and identify any make readies or copy changes, or special directions related to the department.

• Performs purge procedures when changing to a new product and completes the required checklist.

• Covers breaks for other operators and catcher packers.

• Completes appropriate end of shift paperwork, accounting time for operator, and machine start and stop time off hour meter.

• Performs routine housekeeping at the end of shift or during break downs.

• Understand and perform at run standards, waste standards, total utilization.

1. Dust from paper converting process constantly present.

2. Employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts and lift trucks.

3. Employee works in a common area shared with others with no division of space.

4. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals found in the plant such as Isopropyl acetate, ethyl alcohol, lacquer thinner, etc.

5. May experience ambient temperature extremes on hot, humid days.

6. Required to wear hair nets, beard nets (if applicable), safety glasses, and hearing protection in the manufacturing area.

1. Position requires employee to stand, walk and use hands and fingers in order to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

2. Frequently required to talk or hear, climb, stoop, bend, and reach with hands and arms.

3. Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40lbs.

4. Repetitive movement of hands, fingers, and wrists. Good color vision is required to distinguish printed shades/colors.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED. No less than five years of industry experience. Successful completion of a minimum of six (6) weeks of in-house on board training.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to measure to 1/16” and convert the measurement to appropriate decimal equivalent.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed, written, or oral instructions.

Communication Skills: Ability to communicate with supervisor to determine production needs and concerns and to pass this information along to other operators. Ability to write clear messages on downtime logs and shift paperwork.
