The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience operating flexographic presses showing a progression to 7 color runs. As a flexographic printing press operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating flexographic printing presses from the simplest to the most complex jobs on any flexographic presses the company provides. You will also be responsible for setting up printing on die cutting stations and turn bars and stackers, mounting plates when necessary, retrieving stock for the run following the press run orders, operating Rewinder and numbering machines when necessary, taking stock inventory when necessary, mixing and matching inks to conform to order specifications, keeping accurate records of press runs to assure quality standards are maintained, planning run to achieve high efficiency rating (run time, scrap, and safety), assisting the production manager with some duties when asked, performing other duties as required from time to time.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma / GED plus 2 or more years operating flexographic presses showing a progression to 7 color runs. Efficient setup and operation of a flexographic press (10 color 13” water base and/or 8 color 17” full UV), focusing on meeting specifications in product quality, safety, and effective management of material and product waste.

Perform product test and measures in accordance with product specifications and react appropriately to non-conforming issues identified.

Monitor production activities in accordance to established GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).

Perform approval of product specifications and line start-ups.

Identify and provide test documentation for product line start-ups.

Perform assigned audits/inspections in a timely manner.

Summarize and create quality data for customer shipments (COA – Certificate of Analysis).

Initiate and record product holds.

Perform final product release for shipments.

The Quality Assurance Technician will perform duties to test raw materials, work in process and finished goods to ensure predetermined specifications and company quality standards are maintained.

Under the direction of the Manager:

1. Work as part of the press-room quality control team, sign off on initial and continued press run job checks, analyze all press side job requirements such as copy and color confirmation, adhesive thickness, silicone requirements, etc.

2. Collect, retain and test finished and developmental materials for required quality levels and adherence to predetermined specifications.

3. Perform a variety of test procedures involving collecting test samples, analyzing data, and writing up test reports.

4. Participate in new product development activities as directed and make recommendations.

5. Collect, organize, store, and record all retains and job checks.

6. Requisition department supplies as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.


Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Minimum 1-year Quality Control experience in manufacturing

• Use a personal computer, mechanical and electronic readout test equipment, laboratory oven, electronic scale, and miscellaneous laboratory equipment

• Be proficient in reading spec sheets and diagrams

• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment as well as work independently on projects

• Computer proficiency in Word and Excel required

The Press Operator is responsible for working from shop orders, specifications and instructions and manage press runs by operating high-speed equipment for double-sided printing of labels, tags and forms. Ensures that, on a daily basis, tasks are completed in a safe, organized manner and that their work area is clean and in an orderly condition to achieve budgeted set-up time and press speeds.


Responsibilities:

• Check and verify paper stock, mount and web paper through prescribed operation sequence. Make setups for double-sided, multiple color and multiple layer printing and processing.

• Adjust and align adhesives, slitting and perforating wheels, die cutters, machine controls, and butt slicers.

• Make initial run, checking printing register, make final adjustments to correct press, and obtain approval for run.

• Regulate ink flow, adjust equipment during run to maintain register, proper impression, and color, and maintain quality standards.

• Clean press and press area, lubricate periodically, clean rollers and plates, change ink, plates, and dies at the end of run as required.

• Inspect and package product as it comes off press at target speeds.

• Remove printed material, place in containers or cartons, load and move to designated locations as well as maintaining ink pumps, hoses, ink trays, and chamber blade units.

• Train new operators and notify supervisor of unusual equipment or operating condition.

• Follow safety rules and keep work area in clean and orderly condition.

• Perform other related duties, as assigned.


Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED

• 6+ months press operator experience with high-speed presses (flexo)

• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with hand tools, gauges, and measuring equipment

• Excellent math aptitude, skilled in reading a ruler and strong written and verbal communications

• Differentiate color and visually inspect product as it is produced

• High attention to detail and accuracy will be required for data input tasks

• Ability to lift 40 lbs. several times daily, and stand and walk for entire shift

• Work independently with minimal supervision and cooperatively with others

• Overtime will be required during the busy season with up to a 12-hour shift

Looking for candidates with experience on narrow web flexo presses such as Mark Andy, Nilpeter, Comco, Aquaflex, or Webtron presses.

Job Summary

· Formulate color matches for all printing processes (gravure, screen, offset, UV flexo) from customer supplied targets, or Pantone colors.

· Operate Ink Management Program to enter, make, and adjust all ink formulas.

· Tone inks and troubleshoot any ink or varnish concerns at press side.

· Supply presses with inks and varnishes according to daily schedule.

· Update schedules and make required components on an as needed basis.

Make adhesives, inks, and coatings in bulk quantities, 55 gal drums (300 lb. to 500 lb.). Able to lift up to 40 lb. to perform these tasks.

Receive all ink dept. inks, solvents and varnishes. Able to lift up to 50 lb. to perform these tasks.

Clear presses of inks and varnishes from jobs already run on a per shift basis.

Monitor waste drums in waste room (cap up when full, set up empties with proper labeling), stage full drums for pick up on weekly basis. Able to move drums with a pallet jack (drums weigh 400 lbs).

Maintain all incoming materials regarding COA documentation.


Knowledge / Skills / Experience: 2-3 years of experience desired

Understand and use spectrophoto meters for formulating and checking color matches.

Able to differentiate between all hues of color.

Good math skills

Basic computer skills needed.

Must have good communication skills and work well with others

Seeking experienced press operators with a growing flex pack company just outside Milwaukee. New equipment, recent expansion and climate-controlled facility. Operator will run a W&H press.

This is a 12-hour night shift position (7pm-7am) on a 2/2/3 schedule. Hourly pay is $26.70-$31 DOE plus $1.25 shift differential.

Essential Job Functions

Set up and independently operate Press Equipment including Flexographic, Letterpress, and Off-Set Presses, managing the manufacturing processes associated with the assigned equipment with an emphasis on productivity, quality, safety, and good housekeeping.

Manage all processes associated with Press Operation, including the tasks and responsibilities of the assigned Press Helper and Associate.

Train and educate Press Helpers and Associates on operational procedures and technical aspects of the press and other equipment involved in the manufacturing process.

Perform processing tasks including die cutting, perfing (marginal and cross), and punching.

Perform other tasks associated with the printing process including rewinding, unwinding, slitting, folding (fixed and variable), packaging tasks, etc.

Review job tickets and verify stock, inks, and dies are available and used as specified.

Complete required paperwork and quality sign offs.

Inspect finished product for any imperfections or irregularities making adjustments as needed.

Maintain running speeds, tension, and registration, of presses while checking for quality.

Perform numbering tasks (T/S belts, ink jets, and numbering machines).

Perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance tasks on printing equipment, contacting Maintenance if needed.

Communicate with Machine Operators, Press Operators, Team Leads, and Supervisors on production issues, needs, and recommendations to improve production effectiveness and efficiency, including safety recommendations.
